I still can’t believe it – Ed Sheeran is actually coming to Cyprus! When I saw his announcement post on Instagram, I screamed so loud that my little sister came running to check what was wrong. Nothing was wrong, everything was perfect – my dreams were coming true!

I’ve been a huge Ed fan since primary school when I first heard “Thinking Out Loud” and fell in love with his voice and songwriting. All these years, I’ve been singing his songs at the top of my lungs with my friends Dimitra and Antonis. We’ve grown up with Ed’s music and to think we’ll get to experience it live is unbelievable.

Ever since I was ten, going to an Ed Sheeran concert has been my number one bucket list wish. But I never thought I’d get the chance to cross it off, since he never toured here before. Now, five years later, my long-awaited dreams are finally becoming reality when Ed takes the stage in September. I seriously can’t wait for that day to arrive!

Preparing for the big show in Larnaka

Ever since the announcement, my friends and I have been obsessed with planning every detail of the Ed Sheeran concerts. We’ve been pouring over travel sites trying to find the best and most affordable way to get to the place. A few of us have even started babysitting on weekends to save up for tickets.

Dimitra says her older cousin may be able to drive us if we split gas money. Meanwhile, Antonis has been bugging his parents non-stop about letting him skip a few football practices so we don’t miss the shows. At school, it’s all anyone talks about – who’s sitting where, whether our parents will let us camp out overnight for tickets.

My friend group chat has blown up with endless debates on logistics. But mostly we share our excitement, counting down the months we have left to prepare. I’ve had “Perfect” on repeat as my vision of finally being there with my best friends, experiencing Ed live, starts to feel real. After dreaming of this for so long, it’s surreal that our time is coming!

Economic boost for local businesses

I heard from my older cousin who works at a hotel near the stadium that bookings for the weekends of Ed’s concerts are through the roof. So many fans from other cities and even other countries are pouring into Cyprus just for the shows.

She said their hotel is fully booked both nights already and they’ve had to start a waiting list. Apparently local restaurants and shops are also expecting a boost – lots of fans will want to enjoy meals out and do sightseeing between preparing for the big performances. It’ll be great for the economy to have so many visitors.

I overhead my parents talking about how busy town will be with extra tourism those days. But they seemed happy it means a surge in business for places like souvenir stores, cafes and restaurants. Ed has such a massive global following – I bet loads more will want to turn the concerts into mini vacations too and explore Cyprus while they’re here. It’ll be good promotion for our island!
